Professor Tomozawa's studies include theoretical and experimental work on the solar neutrino problem (the depletion of solar neutrino flux). His work on the enhancement of neutrino cross-sections by magnetoplasma properties attempts to explain observed anticorrelation of the solar neutrino flux and solar activity in recent experiments. Professor Tomozawa is also exploring the possibility of an efficient neutrino detector and a control of radioactivity.More recently, Professor Tomozawa found that the Schwarzschild metric does not fit the data of time delay experiment in the field of general relativity. He introduced a physical metric which fits the data. It was constructed with the constraint that the speed of light on the spherical direction is unchanged from that in vacuum. This modification changes the way we understand the nature of gravity drastically. In particular, it explains the dark energy.

Anwar serves as an Editor of IEEE Journal of Electron Devices and has served as an Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices (2001 – 2010). He serves as the conference chair of the international conference on Terahertz Physics, Devices and Systems: Advanced Applications in Industry and Defense of the SPIE Defense, Security and Sensing (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012). He has also chaired the 2006 and 2007 Terahertz Physics, Devices and Systems Conference as part of SPIEs Optics East. Anwar is a SPIE fellow.

Dr. Mary Mehrnoosh Eshaghian-Wilner has over 26 years of research experience in various areas within the field of Computer Engineering. Additionally, she has worked in the area of patent law for several years. She has published numerous scientific papers, including two books, and has handled the prosecution and infringement analysis of many complex U.S. and international patents. Dr. Eshaghian-Wilner currently is a Professor of Engineering Practice at the Electrical Engineering-Systems Department at the University of Southern California (USC), and since 2004 has been an Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Prior to joining UCLA, she was a tenured full Professor and Department Head at the Computer Engineering Department of Rochester Institute of Technology. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner received her B.S. degree in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering (1985), M.S. degree in Computer Engineering (1985), her Engineers degree in Electrical Engineering (1988), and her Ph.D. in Computer Engineering (1988), all from USC. She holds a J.D. degree from the Northwestern California School of Law, and has graduated Cum Laude with an LL.M. degree from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law. She is admitted to the State Bar of California and the Washington, D.C. Bar, and is registered as a Patent Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner is best known for her pioneering contributions to three areas of Optical Computing, Heterogeneous Computing, and Nanoscale Computing. In the area of Optical Computing, she produced one of the first theses that dealt with the computational aspects of optical interconnects for VLSI chips. The OMC model was developed by Professor Eshaghian-Wilner as part of her Ph.D. work, and since then, many architectures and algorithms have been designed by on that model. In the area of Heterogeneous Computing, Professor Eshaghian-Wilner is the editor of the field's first book, "Heterogeneous Computing," and she is the co- founder of the IEEE Heterogeneous Computing Workshop. The NSF-funded Cluster-M model was developed by her team, as one of the first paradigms for executing heterogeneous applications to systems. The Cluster-M mapping is still the fastest known algorithm for mapping arbitrary task graphs onto arbitrary system graphs. In the area of Nanoscale Computing, one of Professor Eshaghian-Wilner's most notable results involves the design of highly interconnected multiprocessor chips with spin waves that possess an unprecedented degree of interconnectivity that was not possible previously with electrical VLSI interconnects. These designs have a great potential to be used as part of miniature implantable devices for biomedical applications and nanomedicine. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner serves on the editorial board of Journal of Nanomedicine and Nanotechnology, and is a founding series co-editor of "Nature Inspired Computing" for Wiley & Sons. She has edited the first book of this series, "Bio-inspired and Nanoscale Integrated Computing". Professor Eshaghian-Wilner's most recent area of research is in Technology Law. She is investigating how various forms of emerging technologies may be impacted by, and come into conflict with, U.S. and international policies and laws. For example, Pervasive (heterogeneous/ubiquitous) computing and nanotechnology are two emerging technologies in which she an extensive scientific background. While these two technologies are entirely different from each other, they both are seemingly invisible, one in terms of interconnectivity and the other in terms of size. They can therefore introduce continuously magnifying challenges to policies and laws that protect rights and property. Professor Eshaghian-Wilner has founded and/or chaired numerous IEEE conferences and organizations, including the IEEE Women in Engineering affinity division of the Coastal Los Angeles Section. She is the recipient of several prestigious grants and honors including a teaching award for being voted as the best teacher by her engineering students.

Her research focuses on the development of novel complex materials with intriguing physical properties, such as new phases that exist on the edge of instabilities (unconventional superconductivity, quantum critical phenomena, heavy – Fermion behavior, thermoelectricity etc.). Dr. Reza Shadnam is a science manager at R&D incentive group, a technology, development, and research consulting practice within the KPMG. He is in contact with technical side of tens of companies in his current position. His research areas are micro/nano surface science/engineering and mechanical and mathematical dynamics and stability. He has completed a Ph.D. in the Surface Engineering and Instrumentation Laboratory at the National Institute of Nanotechnology. He has also received a Ph.D. degree in Structural Engineering (Structural Dynamics) from Sharif University of Technology in 2002. He has presented in relevant conferences and he has reviewed manuscripts for 19 journals, e.g. Journal of Physics, International Journal of Mechanics of Solids, Nanotechnology, Journal of Mechanical Engineering & Technology and Applied Mathematical Modelling. Dr. Dongyang Li is a Professor at University of Alberta. His research interests include nano-materials and surfaces, tribo-physics, surface science/engineering, biomedical engineering, tribological phenomena, and computational materials science. Dr. Li obtained a B.Sc. in Solid Mechanics from University of Science and Technology China (1982), a M.Sc. in Solid-State Physics from Zhongshan University (1985), a PhD in Materials Physics from University of Science and Technology Beijing (1990) and a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering from McGill University (1995). Before joining U of Alberta in 1998, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Pennsylvania State University (1995 – 97). He is an Adjunct Professor in Dept. of Biomedical Engineering, U. of Alberta, a visiting professor at the National University of Singapore (2004, 2012) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2011), and a foreign doctoral advisor at the Harbin Institute of Technology. Koji Sugioka received his B. S., Ms. Eng., and Dr. Eng. Degrees in electronics from Waseda University (Japan) in 1984, 1986, 1993, respectively. He Joined RIKEN in 1986 and is currently a Unit Leader of RIKEN-SIOM Joint Research Unit at RIKEN Center for Advanced Photonics. He is also a guest professor at Tokyo University of Science since 2006 and Tokyo Denki University since 2004. Dr. Sugioka has achieved numerous significant research and development results, and is worldwide recognized as one of the most distinguished and influential scientists in the area of laser micro and nano processing. He has made important contribution to both fundamental researches on laser-matter interactions and diverse applications including practical use in the said area. He is internationally renowned for his works on laser doping, laser etching, laser surface modification, laser-induced selective metallization, microfabrication of transparent materials, VUV laser processing, laser surface nanostructuring, and 3D micro and nano fabrication. In particular, he is known as a leading scientist in the ultrafast laser processing technology. His current research interests include ultrafast laser processing for microfluidic, optofluidic, microelectronic and optoelectronic applications. He is currently a member of the board of directors of the Laser Institute of America (LIA) and Japanese Laser Processing Society (JLPS), and an SPIE Fellow. He is an author and co-author of 14 invited papers in international journals with referee system and over 160 peer-reviewed journal articles. He also published 2 books and 8 chapters in English and 24 chapters in Japanese and edited 2 international books and 4 Japanese books. He holds 16 licensed patents in the field of optics and laser applications. Tsuyoshi Takami has completed his PhD in 2007 from Nagoya University and worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at University of Texas at Austin. He was the editor of Nanothermoelectrics. He has published more than 35 papers in reputed journals such as PRL, PRB, and APL and a comprehensive review book titled “Functional Cobalt Oxides: Fundamentals, Properties, and Applications” in the CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group.

Dr. Takami’s research interests focus on design and synthesis of strongly correlated electron systems including superconductors, spintronic/orbitronic materials, and thermoelectric materials. He has emphasized the relationship between electronic degrees of freedom, i.e., charge, spin, and orbital, and physical properties of transition-metal oxides. Over the past several years, he has clarified the mechanism of a large thermoelectric power and an appearance of superconductivity observed for cobalt and copper oxides, respectively. These subjects have mainly investigated by measuring the transport properties in conjunction with microscopic techniques such as NMR and μ+SR. His strategy would bring about an important clue to explore functional materials.

Received his Ph. D from McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada in 2008. After graduation he worked as post doctoral fellow in the same group. In October 2009, he joined the photonic group and the institute of optical sciences at the University of Toronto where he works as a research fellow. In September 2011, he was appointed as an assistant professor at the Department of Physics, the American university in Cairo (AUC). His research interests include design optimization and fabrication of active and passive nanophotonic and plasmonic devices and systems, silicon photonics, optical interconnects, integrated on- chip optical systems, lab on chip, nano-antenna, metamaterials, and solar cells. The main applications include biomedical integrated systems, energy harvesting, and telecommunications. He authored more than 120 technical papers in highly ranked journals and conferences. He also hold 2 patents, a book, and book chapter in these areas. Dr. Swillam is a guest editor in J. of optical and quantum electronics. He is also member of the editorial board of many physics and photonics journal including journal of review of applied physics, J. of photonics and optoelectronics, J. of Bio-Inspired Nanotechnology, NUSOD, ICMAP and SOPO. He is also a senior member of the IEEE Photonic society since 2010. Ajay Kumar Mishra is a full Professor at the Nanotechnology and Water Sustainability Research Unit at College of Science, Engineering & Technology, University of South Africa, Florida Science Campus, South Africa. He received his B. Sc, M. Sc., degrees in 1997 and 2001 respectively from Purvanchal University Jaunpur, India and M. Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in 2003 and 2007, respectively, from The University of Delhi, India. From March 2006 to September 2009, he was postdoctoral fellows at various South African Institutes/Universities. In addition, he was appointed as “Senior Lecturer” in October 2009 at the Department of Applied Chemistry, University of Johannesburg, South Africa where he was promoted to “Associate Professor” in November 2011 until December 2014. Recently, he was appointed by University of South Africa as “Full Professor” since January 2015. He is also working as “Adjunct Professor” at Jiangsu University, China. His research interests include synthesis of multifunctional nano-materials, nano-composites, biopolymer and/or petrochemical based biodegradable polymers, polymers based materials/composites, smart materials, CNT and graphene based composite materials and water research. He has authored over 100 scientific papers. He has hosted several visiting researchers/scientists/postdocs in his group. He has also developed a number of collaborations worldwide. He has delivered a number of including Plenary/Keynote/Invited Lectures. For his outstanding research profile, he was awarded a number of international awards. Prof. Mishra also served as Associate Editor as well as member of the editorial board of many peer-reviewed international journals. He has edited several books by the renowned publishers and also reviewer of many international journals. He is serving as member advisory board of a number of international scientific societies, conferences and workshops.

My research interest is in four broad areas, namely: Nanoscience/Nanotechnology, Materials Science, Polymers, Composite/Nanocomposites and Water Research. I am actively involved in the area of nanotechnology towards the development of smart materials for various applications in the field of materials science and water research. I train and supervise Honours, Masters and Doctoral students as well as postdoctoral fellows under the following research themes: 1.Synthesis of multifunctional nano-materials, nano-composites, biopolymer and/or petrochemical based biodegradable polymers and polymers based materials/composites for various applications, special attention to drug delivery. 2.Nanotechnology towards to the development of smart materials for various applications in the field of Materials Science/Polymer Science/Water Research/Bio-inorganic Chemistry. 3.Organometallic Chemistry/Bio-inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis in the area of Inorganic Chemistry. 4.Carbon nanotube and graphene based composite materials for technological applications.
